On my golden birthday, Luke organized a trip to the Great Pyramids in Giza with a few of my closest friends. The five of us hopped in a cab at 4:30AM to get to the pyramids for sunrise. We rented some horses and camels and went on an hour long journey to an area that overlooked the pyramids. After we returned from our camel/horse rides we bought tickets to get a closer look at the Sphinx and the Great Pyramids of Giza. I was astounded by the size of the pyramids – to think that something that massive was made without any machines. I was also surprised by the lack of tourists. It was great to not have to deal with a crowd of people, but I know that so many people in Egypt are struggling because of the lack of tourism. I can only hope that things will continue to improve in Egypt and people from outside the country will start to travel to Egypt once again to visit the amazing sights and meet the amazing people.
Luke, Mariko, Brandon and Autum thank you so much for such an amazing birthday! I never would have imagined that on my golden birthday (or any birthday) I would be watching the sunrise over the Great Pyramids of Giza. In the words of my mom, “How are you ever going to top that?”
